Pineapple was designed by Siro Toffolon. The
Pineapple has been the symbol of hospitality since the 15th and
16th centuries. When seamen on whaling ships returned home from
the South Seas, they would place a pineapple at their front gate.
This would signal welcome to all neighbors and friends to celebrate
their successful return.
The tradition continues today with the Pineapple
motif often carved in doorways and entryways to welcome friends
and neighbors. It has become the international symbol of
hospitality.
