Continental Size Patterns - Stainless steel flatware Continental size is a term used to describe oversized flatware, which is more common in Europe. Typically, it is used when a dinner fork measures about 8", the knife is about 9-1/2" or longer, and the soup spoon is at least 7-1/2", but 8" is more true to the Continental Size.
